Pupil Premium Strategy 2017 - 2018

Pupil Premium Strategy 2017 – 2018

At The Berkeley Academy we believe every child is unique and special. Our Growth mindset and reflective approach ensures we have the highest expectations of all children and that no one is left behind. All members of staff, governors and teaching assistants accept responsibility for ‘socially disadvantaged’ pupils and are committed to meeting their pastoral, social and academic needs within a caring environment.

In order to meet the above requirements, the Governing Body of The Berkeley Academy will ensure that provision is made which secures the teaching and learning opportunities that meet the needs of all pupils. After analysing our data, our priority in the academic year 2017-2018 will be to focus on diminishing the difference between children in receipt of Pupil Premium Grant and those who are not so that all children achieve their expected level or higher.

We will ensure that:

  • A high profile is given to pupil premium pupils
  • All staff are accountable for the progress of pupil premium children.

Funding 2017-2018

Funding for this year falls into 3 key areas:

1) Learning and the Curriculum

  • Small group revision sessions
  • TA support in class throughout the day to allow for smaller group sizes and point of need support provided by either TA or the class teacher.
  • Provision of a Speech and Language therapist to assess, plan and deliver individual care plans

2)Enrichment within and beyond the curriculum

  • Subsidised school trips
  • Subsidised residential trips in year 4 and year 6
  • A wide range of after school clubs
  • Music lessons during school time – subsidised

3)Social and Emotional Support

  • One to one review sessions in which each child meets with their class teacher to discuss their progress, set new termly targets and overcome and barriers/concerns they may have.
  • Nurture group
  • A mentoring system

We will review this strategy and its impact in July 2018.
