Pupil Premium Strategy 2019 - 2020

Pupil Premium Strategy 2019 – 2020

At The Berkeley Academy we believe every child is unique and special. Our Growth mindset and reflective approach ensures we have the highest expectations of all children and that no one is left behind. All members of staff, governors and teaching assistants accept responsibility for ‘socially disadvantaged’ pupils and are committed to meeting their pastoral, social and academic needs within a caring environment.

In order to meet the above requirements, the Governing Body of The Berkeley Academy will ensure that provision is made which secures the teaching and learning opportunities that meet the needs of all pupils. After analysing our data, our priority in the academic year 2019-2020 will be to focus on diminishing the difference in attainment between children in receipt of Pupil Premium Grant and those who are not so that all children achieve their expected level or higher.

We will ensure that:

  • A high profile is given to pupil premium pupils
  • All staff are accountable for the progress of pupil premium children.

Funding 2019-2020

Funding for this year falls into 3 key areas:

  1. Learning and the Curriculum
  • Personalised point of need 1:1 support
  • Provision of a Speech and Language therapist to assess, plan and deliver individual care plans
  • Greater focus and support during writing and maths lessons – identify key issues within children’s work and use TA support to allow for more focussed sessions to address these needs (delivered by both TA and class teacher).

  1. Enrichment within and beyond the curriculum
  • Subsidised school trips
  • Subsidised residential trips in year 4 and year 6
  • A wide range of after school clubs
  • Music lessons during school time – subsidised
  • The Berkeley Business School

  1. Social and Emotional Support
  • ‘Calm corners’ in each classroom.
  • CAT therapy
  • A mentoring system
  • Mindfulness and well-being taught as discreet lessons.

We will review this strategy and its impact in July 2020.
