Autumn 2025
English
In English, we will be using the book 'Stickman' to support us in writing basic sentences and helping us to ensure that our capital letters, full stops and handwriting are all perfect. We will then continue to focus on this when we look at the other books: Stanley's Stick, The Smeds and The Smoos and The Man on The Moon.
Maths
In Maths our focus will be on place value and addition and subtraction. We will be recapping our learning from year 1 and using this to help us achieve our year 2 objectives.
Geography
We will be locating where we live on an aerial photograph and recognising local features. We will draw simple maps of the school grounds. We will use maps to follow simple routes around the school grounds and carry out an enquiry about how to improve their playground.
Science
Our focus for the first half term will be Properties of Materials - Everyday Materials. Throughout the term we will be identifying different everyday materials before studying their uses, properties and suitability for various items. Our scientific investigation will be focused around testing which materials would be most suited to a specific purpose.
After half term, we will be moving on to learn all about how animals (including humans) grow and what they need in order to be able to grow and survive.
Design & Technology
In D&T, our topic is Nutrition and Cooking so we will be focusing our learning around balanced diets and learning about what comprises a healthy diet before designing and making our own healthy wraps.
History
After half term, we will be learning all about the role of a monarch, comparing the monarchy today with the monarchy in the past. We will investigate how William the Conqueror became King and learn how he used castles to rule. We will study different types of castles and consider how these evolved over time.
Art
For the second part of the term, we will be learning all about the artist Andy Goldsworthy who is a renowned sculptor and famously creates art from natural materials. We will be working towards creating our own piece of natural material art.
PE
PE for both classes is on a Monday and Friday afternoon so please come to school wearing your full PE kit. Please could you make sure that long hair is tied up and that any earrings which cannot be removed are covered with tape/plasters. As the weather gets colder, you might prefer to wear your outdoor PE kit. Please be reminded of our PE uniform which includes your house coloured top - no sports kits or jewellery please.
