Autumn 2026

English

In English, we will be using various different texts to support us in writing basic sentences and helping us to ensure that our capital letters, full stops and handwriting are all perfect. We will be using these texts to become confident in re-telling stories whilst also working on including our own ideas and vocabulary choices.  A different text will be selected each week so if you have read any books recently that you have particularly enjoyed then please let us know; we'd love to hear any suggestions!

Maths

In Maths our focus will be on place value and addition and subtraction. We will be recapping our learning from year 1 and using this to help us achieve our year 2 objectives.  We will be using lots of concrete resources to support our learning and will also be completing a flashback each day.  Flashbacks help us to recall and recap things that we have already learnt to ensure that we can still answer questions and recall our learning. 

Geography

Our question in Geography this term is 'Would you prefer to live in a hot or a cold place?'.  As geographers, we will be focusing on being able to explain what the equator is and locate it on a map, identify the North and South poles, explain why different parts of the world have different climates and describe examples of hot and cold places.

Science

Our focus for the first half term will be Properties of Materials - Everyday Materials.  Throughout the term we will be identifying different everyday materials before studying their uses, properties and suitability for various items.  Our scientific investigation will be focused around testing which materials would be most suited to a specific purpose.

After half term, we will be moving on to learn all about how animals (including humans) grow and what they need in order to be able to grow and survive.

Design & Technology

In D&T, our topic is Nutrition and Cooking so we will be focusing our learning around balanced diets and learning about what comprises a healthy diet before designing and making our own healthy wraps.  When we make our healthy wraps, we will be learning different chopping and preparation techniques and ensuring we understand how to prepare food safely.

History

After half term, we will be focusing on answering the question 'What is a monarch?'.  As historians, we will be focusing on what a monarch is, explaining who William the Conqueror was, learn about what absolute power meant in the past and also describe how historians have used historical sources to help them learn about the past.

Art

For the second part of the term, we will be learning all about the artist Andy Goldsworthy who is a renowned sculptor and famously creates art from natural materials.  We will be working towards creating our own piece of natural material art.

PE

PE for both classes is on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon so please come to school wearing your full PE kit. Please could you make sure that long hair is tied up and that any earrings which cannot be removed are covered with tape/plasters. As the weather gets colder, you might prefer to wear your outdoor PE kit. Please be reminded of our PE uniform which includes your house coloured top - no sports kits or jewellery please.

Homework

Homework will be set each Friday and is due in the following Thursday.  Please look on our homework page for the weekly homework tasks.  Homework will be comprised of a maths and English task each week alongside the weekly reading which should be recorded in reading diaries.
