Gillian Barker

Term of office- 9.10.2020-8.10.2024.

First appointed 24.09.2020

Co-opted Governor

I consider it a privilege to be a member of the governing board at The Berkeley Primary Academy. I joined the team in September 2020.  I live locally and have a granddaughter who is now in Year 1.

In addition to my general involvement on the governing board, I am the link governor for Literacy. I meet regularly with the Lead teachers for Reading and Writing, reporting back to the other governors. I also sit on the Headteacher Performance Management Committee.

I retired as headteacher of a Cheshire primary school four years ago, after 39 years working in primary education. In addition to this role, I was an associate lecturer in education at Manchester Metropolitan University for 11 years, focussing on trainees embarking upon their Post Graduate Certificate in Education.

I now work part-time as an Education Consultant, supporting schools with improvement and development, conducting school reviews and delivering a course throughout the North West of England for school leaders.

I firmly believe that each pupil is entitled to a rich and exciting curriculum that is wholly inclusive; a curriculum that inspires and engages pupils, leading directly to improvement. I am committed to ensuring that each child reaches their full potential and that expectations and standards in school remain high.

In my spare time I enjoy running, walking, travelling (though not recently!), cooking and entertaining friends. I also have a passion for music, particularly involving children and I play the piano.
