Gillian Barker

Term of office- 9.10.2020-8.10.2024.

First appointed 24.09.2020

I am thrilled to join the governing body of The Berkeley Primary Academy and look forward to working alongside the existing team. I live locally and have a granddaughter who is now in Reception class, following two years in the school nursery.

I retired as headteacher of a Cheshire primary school three years ago, after 39 years working in primary education. In addition to this role, I was an associate lecturer in education at Manchester Metropolitan University for 11 years, focusing on trainees embarking upon their Post Graduate Certificate in Education.

I now work part-time as an Education Consultant, supporting schools with improvement and development, conducting school reviews and delivering a course for school leaders.

I firmly believe that each pupil is entitled to a rich and exciting curriculum that is wholly inclusive; a curriculum that inspires and engages pupils, leading directly to improvement. I am committed to ensuring that each child reaches their full potential and that expectations and standards in school remain high.

In my spare time I enjoy walking, travelling, cooking and entertaining friends. I also have a passion for music, particularly involving children and I play the piano.
