At The Berkeley Academy, our geography curriculum aims to promote a good understanding for cultural knowledge and curiosity about our country and our world, along with gaining a wide understanding of their locality through opportunities for fieldwork. We strive to develop a good understanding of locational knowledge, helping them to understand their own sense of identity, the country we live in and the world around us. This includes finding out about our location and characteristics of a range of the world’s most significant human and physical features. We aim to promote Geography through our wider curriculum and linking it to other areas of our learning.
Our curriculum prides itself on constantly building upon children’s previous learning, acquiring more complex geographical knowledge by learning through our linked wider curriculum. Our children will be encouraged to question human behaviour in order to sustain and improve the environment. They will be able to recognise their responsibilities within the global community and that of our local community. We pride ourselves on developing children’s ability to ask geographical questions and being able to understand and acquire subject-specific vocabulary relating to human and physical geography.
